Welcome to Ashton Maxwell Funeral Directors in Streatham. We are here for you during your time of need, to help make things a little easier and arrange a heartfelt funeral that pays tribute to your loved one’s life.
We used to be known as Maxwell & Sons, until our name changed to Maxwell Brothers in 1879 and now more recently we are Ashton Maxwell. We have a long history of caring for families, having opened on Brixton Road in 1842. Back then, the undertaking was only a part of what we did, with building and decorating also playing a large part in how we helped people. We now focus solely on arranging funeral services, with a wealth of specialist knowledge and expertise that we will use to help you.
We are always striving to set the bar in funeral standards, so you can expect nothing but the utmost compassion and professionalism from our team as they guide and support you.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
In 2022 I used this organisation for the funeral of my mother, Emilia and because of the amazing service I received from Monica, I returned for the funeral of my dear Sister, Myrtle.
Sandy was now the person responsible.
She was quick, caring and professional in the way she dealt with arrangements. Kept me up to date, communicated well with me, the church and the burial personnel.
I would definitely recommend them with no reservations.
Ashton Maxwell did my Mum cremation. Excellent and respectful service. Sandy helped with the organising of the flowers, music and Vicar. On the day they phoned me to tell me what was going to happen and asked us questions on what we would like so respectful
Ashton Maxwell Funeral Directors conducted my mum’s funeral earlier this week. Stephanie and her team done a great job. They rang us in advance to run through the key points of the funeral day pickup/drop off times, flowers, service times etc and were professional throughout the process. David Collins
Very professional service for my dads funeral and very helpful.
This is just to say thank you to everyone at Ashton Maxwell Funeral Directors, and especially to Monica and Steph for their help and professionalism during one of the most difficult times in a person's life. I recently lost my partner and cannot praise Monica and Steph enough for making this awful experience a little bit better. Monica arranged everything for me, she guided me through the whole process and made sure I didn't have to worry about anything. She showed me compassion and kindness, and respected every wish and request. I believe she offered me more than what her job description required her to do, and I felt that on top of making arrangements, she took care of me. Their kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you
