From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Denise was a thoughtful, kind, and genuinely supportive presence throughout the entire funeral process. She guided us with compassion and sensitivity, always making sure we felt cared for during such a difficult time. Even after the funeral, she continued to check in on us, which meant so much. Her support made a painful experience a little more bearable, and we’re truly grateful for her warmth and professionalism.
Thank you so much.
Charlotte was absolutely AMAZING! Thank you Charlotte for ensuring that my late Mother received an excellent service for her funeral in London AND her final journey home to be laid to rest in Jamaica. Charlotte you are a gem! You have done Ashton proud! Thank you and well done!
Your service was satisfactory and am happy for all support and assistance especially to Joan.
The service from the Brixton team was second to none and I cannot fault their consideration and care, particularly when having to organise a funeral from a distance. Absolutely the best funeral directors in Brixton
Charlotte and the other lady guided me through one of the most traumatic experiences of my life with genuine compassion and care. Mum looked so beautifully presented which is a memory of great comfort. The arrangements went to plan 100% with no hidden costs.
I highly recommend Ashton Maxwell Funeral Directors to anybody during one of the most difficult times of life for their overall excellence.
It is always good to hear that individual members of our team have provided a service to you to the best of their ability. Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your mother.
